About the Council
The Parish Council is the first tier of local government, with Councillors elected from the local community.
Parish Council meetings are held at Silkstone Sports Pavilion and start at 6.45pm with a 15 minute public question time.
Parish Councillors attend meetings with various official bodies, such as Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, to discuss proposals to try to obtain the best deal for Silkstone and Silkstone Common.
All this work is voluntary, and Parish Councillors claim only minimal expenses. Most claim none at all.
All Members of the Council are required to complete a Register of Interests under the Localism Act 2011, the form is the Notification to the Monitoring Officer of Barnsley MBC of any disclosable pecuniary interests to be entered on the Register of Members' Interests. These are public documents and can be viewed on the councillors page.
