PRESS RELEASE

Published: 24 January 2024

Silkstone Parish Council held an Extraordinary Meeting on Monday 22nd January 2024 to consider a response to the proposed ward boundary changes by Barnsley Council.

The proposal by Barnsley Council is to move Silkstone Common into Dodworth Ward whilst leaving Silkstone in Penistone East Ward.

The proposal to the Local Government Boundary Commission is part of a review of ward boundaries in Barnsley to take effect from 2025.

There has been no consultation or communication with the Parish Council or residents of the villages by which the Parish Council find very disappointing and have written to Barnsley MBC accordingly.

The Parish Council will be making a representation to the Local Government Boundary Commission as part of their initial consultation period and have secured an extension to 12th February 2024.

A newsletter to all residents of the parish explaining the review and how to give their views will be delivered as soon as possible – in the meantime if you would like to give your views you can do so using the following link.
