Jays Wood, Hall Royd Lane, Silkstone Common

After months of work by CARE volunteers to create an entrance and footpath, install a bench and cut back lots of trees, Jays Wood is now open. Many thanks to all those who attended the grand opening in April 2016.

Named after the Jay, a member of the Crow family that are responsible for the proliferation of Oak trees in the Wood due to nesting in large numbers.

Pictured in 2016 below from left : Karen Canadine - Clerk to Silkstone Parish Council, Graham Wells of CARE and Councillor Richard Leech - Chairman of Silkstone Parish Council.

Orchard Wood, Silkstone Common

Orchard Wood can be accessed from Moorend Lane (next to Silkstone Common J&I school)  via a 'Kissing Gate' or through a large gate giving some access to wheelchair users following pathway improvement works carried out by CARE volunteers. There is an alternative entrance from Woodland View. The wood includes a small meadow area which is home to a PALS memorial stone. CARE have worked for many years in the wood improving the footpaths, creating a new meadow area and creating wildlife habitats.
