Your Council
The Parish Council is the first tier of local government, with Councillors elected from the local community.
The Parish Council meet alternately on the first Monday and first Tuesday of every month, alternating the meetings between Silkstone and Silkstone Common. During the week before each meeting notices are placed in the village notice boards and on this website giving the time and venue for the meeting. Meetings start at 6.45pm with a public open forum.

Parish Councillors attend meetings with various official bodies, such as Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, to discuss proposals to try to obtain the best deal for Silkstone and Silkstone Common.
All this work is voluntary, and Parish Councillors claim only minimal expenses. Most claim none at all.
